The Want Store takes over a retail environment to provide information rather than goods to college students. Displays include a product scanner to show how much the average college student spends on items such as coffee during a four-year period—then tells them what they could spend it on instead, like paying several months of rent. This concept project was developed in Kristine Matthews’ Exhibition Design course, where student teams design installations to create a change they would like to see in the world.
The Want Store was featured in Print Magazine and on Core77.com, designboom.com, and CultureNow.com. It was an Adobe Achievement Awards finalist and winner of a 2009 UCDA Award of Excellence.
