Business Is…

Client: University of Washington Foster School of Business, Seattle, Washington Design Team: Kristine Matthews, Karen Cheng, designers Photos: Michael Burns, James Davidson, Matt Hagen; Jeremy Juel, videography

“How do you define business?” is a question we posed for this permanent installation in PACCAR Hall, the new home of the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington. Viewers are asked to respond to the open-ended question “Business is…” on a companion website, www.FosterExchange.com. Responses appear on a series of LED monitors that wrap around a four-story column. The monitors also display real-time stock market openings and closings, predictions, and even advice for students who meet and study in the atrium below. View a three-minute video of the project here: http://vimeo.com/19380538

Business Is… won a 2011 365: Design Effectiveness AIGA Award.
