River Thames Interpretation Points

Client: English Partnerships and The Environment Agency, Greenwich, England Design Team: Kristine Matthews, Sophie Thomas, designers; Grant Associates, 3-d designers. Designed at thomas.matthews, London. Photos: David Spero

This sign series developed out of a winning competition entry to create interpretation along the River Thames at Greenwich, just outside of London. Starting with minimal content from the client, we developed the copywriting, image research and graphic design for four distinct information points. Each one describes the regeneration and significance of the land and river at Greenwich, and takes a shape that reinforces the story being told. For example a tall totem sign shows how much the water level fluctuates up and down with the tides each day, while a 30-foot-long timeline describes 10,000 years of Thames history.
